Sound Scapes: PPO's 29th Season Concert

Last Friday, we went to the Cultural Center of the Philippines to watch the opening concert of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra's 29th Season entitled Sound Scapes. My wife, daughter and I bought subscription packages for 4 shows. Students and government employees get 50% and 20% discount, respectively.

I have to be honest that we are not into classical music but we bought the season passes just the same to encourage as well as inspire our daughter with her violin lessons.

Since our car is subject to number coding on Fridays,we were only able to leave where I usually park my car at 7 PM. The traffic that night was terrible that my wife couldn't make it on time to meet us, so she decided to follow us directly to the CCP instead.

After parking our car across the CCP, we walked our way to the entrance of the Little  (Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino) Theater at the side of the CCP where we climbed the stairs to the Main  (Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo) Theater. At the lobby, we got our plastic id cards which would entitle us to 4 shows. No more tickets. One just have to tap his card in a machine to gain entrance to the show.

We were shown out seats by an usherette which would be our permanent ones during the rest of the season. We noticed that there were lots of students watching the show, probably a requirement from their school. All the seats were almost taken.

The concert began with a piece from Camille Saint-Saens (Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah) and followed by Cello Concerto by Edward Elgar with Renato Lucas playing the cello.

After a 15 minute interval, the final piece, Richard Strauss's Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life) was performed by the PPO followed by a huge applause from the audience.

We still have three more shows out of the seven remaining concerts. Would anyone want to recommend which ones to watch?

If it's PPO performance, it's definitely class "A" audience. What a nice way to encourage Angel to excel in her violin lesson.
